AMERIGO VESPUCCI: SWINDLER OR SAINT?

For centuries, historians have assassinated Amerigo Vespucci's
character because the explorer supposedly stole Christopher Columbus'
glory-but nothing could be farther from the truth. Indeed, the
most that Amerigo can be accused of is having been a greater
inspiration than Columbus to the imagination of Europe, as it
came to grips with the implications of a "New World."
