The Technical Revolution of Oil Painting

As in other arts, studies of mathematical perspective and human anatomy helped spur painting to new heights during the Renaissance. Equally important, however, was a new medium which took Europe's art community by storm. titian's iridescent colors, Rembrandt's moddy character studies, and El Greco's passionate brushstrokes would not have been possible without the development of oil paint.
