The Nefarious Borgias: Fact or Fiction?
One of the most intriguing legends of the Italian Renaissance is that of the infamous Borgias. To many, the names Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia evoke stories of surreptitious assaults in dark alleyways, tongues cut off at the merest insult, and mutilated corpses fished out of the Tiber. Their use of poison was legendary, and it was widely believed that many an honored guest at a Borgia banquet became history shortly thereafter.
