Fool's Joust $14.95 / Tattersall Publ./ 1998 Fools Joust starts out when Tay Silvestri, a special agent of the FBI, and her boyfriend "Trick" McGuire, receive a frantic call from Tay's sister that Tay's nephew, Brian, had joined the Knights of the Once and Forever King, a cult whose mission is to rid the world of evil, poverty, and hopelessness, by restoring it to chivalry. When Tay's connections are no help in finding Brian, Trick goes undercover by joining the cult, only to find that its leader, supposedly the incarnation of King Arthur, is actually an evil time-traveler named Mog Hwl who is training his followers, unbeknownst to them, to kill the US president and the Prince of Wales, so that he may declare himself lord of all nations. What follows is as unusual and interesting as its beginnings, making this 275-page novel difficult to put down. Add to this a few scenes which take place at a renaissance faire and some high-action gun and sword fights, and Fool's Joust is as entertaining as it sounds. Although this book is just what it appears to bean action-packed spy/cult novel with fantasy overtonesit also explores the ideals of chivalry in modern times and its inexplicable tug on our heart-strings. —Lady Kimberly |
