Awakening the World
Lost Horizon
Koch Records
(KOC-CD-8261)
Hailing from Sweden, Lost Horizon
plays standard power metal with convictin and talent. From their
Braveheart-inspired costumes
to their defiantly courageous lyrics, Lost Horizon's music is one
of self-enpowerment, providing an inspiring message to follow one's
heart, no matter what the cost.
Their debut album features ten tracks of speed metal laced with
keyboard work and the acrobatic vocals of Daniel Heiman. The rhythm
section
is awe-inspiring, featuring tight drumming and bass playing. Strong
cuts include "Welcome Back," "Sworn in the Metal Wind," and "World
Through my Fateless Eyes," a tune which begins with a lovely
piano introduction, only to end with a blistering bombardment of
metal. The final song of the album-"The Kingdom of My Will"-is
their most experimental track. Clocking in at over nine minutes,
it features various time changes reminiscent of progressive rock.
The only disappointment in this album is its lack of a ballad,
which could have showcased the lead singer's voice and the band's
softer
side. Nonetheless, with musical integrity, a powerful image, and
lyrics which will inspire you to raise your sword in victory, Awakening
the World is a great debut album.
