Eternity
Freedom Call

(SPV 085-72962)
As a child, one of my favorite
movies was The Never Ending Story, and much of Freedom Call's songs
are reminiscent of
the music from this film, only heavier and more progressive. In
fact, Freedom Call's musicianship is first rate, and their fantasy-tinged
lyrics are captivating. With three albums under their belts, their
newest effort, Eternity, provides the same freshness as their previous
albums.
The first notable cut is "Flying High," which kicks off
with Zimmerman's hyper-kinetic drumming but smoothes out during the
course of the song to showcase the speedy riffing between guitarists
Chris Bay and Cede Dupont. "Ages Of Power" is another highlight,
featuring an atmospheric slow section. The featured ballad on Eternity,
however, is "Bleeding Heart," in which singer/guitarist
Chris Bay drops his vocals into the lower range, to give the lyrics
a beautiful, hallowed sound. Finally, "Flame In The Night" provides
a nice mid-tempo riff and a chorus that is undeniably catchy and
therefore great for live sind-alongs.
With other strong cuts such as "The Eyes Of The World" and "Island
Of Dream," Eternity is a meaty release with a lot of varied
msic to entertain the listener.
