Kindred Spirits Bonnie Rideout Maggies Music, P O Box 4144, Annapolis, MD 21403 This album is another in the "chamber-folk" style pioneered by Maggie's Music, in that traditional and Celtic folk music is combined with classic and new-age elements. And Kindred Spirits is a collection of mournful, joyous, and haunting songs celebrating women of Scotland. Rideout, a three-time U.S. Fiddle Champion, is joined by Eric Rigler on the uilleann pipes and the highland bagpipes; Chris Caswell on the wire strung celtic harp, and Maggie Sansone, (Maggie of Maggie's Music), on the hammered dulcimer. The music on this CD captures a wide variety of moods with titles such as "Mrs. Gunn's Strathspey," "My Wife's a Drunkard," and "Bewitching Eyed Brown Maid." The title piece, "Kindred Spirits" is an original "piobaireachd" a traditional and difficult set of variations dedicated as an eulogy to all the Scottish women that have gone before and the legacy of hard work and pride they have left behind.
