Rain of a Thousand Flames
Rhapsody
Limb Music
(LMP 0110-036)
Hailing from Italy, Rhapsody
is comprised of classically trained musicians, all capable of some
of the most technical and
imaginative music heard in years. Although considerably heavier
than their previous albums, this seven-track CD still exhibits
the band's knack for medieval-inspired music, as well as features
full orchestration inspired by such composers as Dvorak, Wagner,
and Beethoven.
Rain of a Thousand Flames continues the "Emerald Sword" saga
that was begun on their debut album, a story about a weapon of
light that must be found in order to vanquish the villain.
This album has something for everyone. Do you enjoy traditional
renaissance music? Then you will appreciate "Elnor´s
Magic Valley." Want something heavier? The blistering title
track, showcasing Alex Holzwarth's speed and dexterity on the drums
might be for you. Prefer something epic? The 13-minute saga "Queen
of the Dark Horizons" crosses a bridge of emotions and features
a choir chorus and requiem-inspired passages.
Unfortunately, the narrator, whose voice appears in between tracks
to narrate the extensive plot, has a lisp, which makes it difficult
to take the narration seriously. This aside, this album's exceptional
artwork on the liner notes-and Rhapsody's success in combining
classical music with heavy metal-makes this CD a must-have, not
only for Power Metal lovers, but also for medieval and fantasy
enthusiasts.
